      Stephen H. Solomson practices in the areas of civil and criminal litigation, as well as family and divorce law. Over more than 30 years as an attorney, he has served as a Public Defender in Hartford Superior Court, as an Assistant State’s Attorney, and as a investigator of fraud and bad faith litigation for a Boston-based insurance company before joining the firm.

      Attorney Solomson recognizes that each client deserves not only individual attention but the support of the entire firm. He works closely with the associates and paralegals to put together an efficient and knowledgeable team to address his clients’ needs.

      Securities Law


      Attorney Solomson has been actively involved in the securities law field for decades. As a white collar crime prosecutor, Attorney Solomson investigated securities fraud and regulatory violations. He has litigated numerous securities matters over the years, most notably State v. Kreminski, 178 Conn. 145 (1979), an important decision interpreting the Connecticut Securities Act, and Presidential Capital v. Reale, 231 Conn. 500 (1994), a case involving a dispute over commissions in connection with the financing of a hotel/casino complex in the Carribean.

      Mr. Solomson presently represents individuals and broker-dealers involved in licensing issues with various regulatory bodies. He has litigated customer complaints and matters involving licensing issues at the NASD, State and Federal levels. Since 1985, he has been a member of the Securities Advisory Council to the Connecticut Department of Banking, the group that assists the department in shaping legislative changes to the Connecticut Uniform Securities Act. He has spoken on securities issues at various seminars over the last 20 years.

      Criminal Law

      Attorney Solomson started his legal career as a legal intern in the Prosecutor’s Office in Hartford while in law school. Since then he served as Public Defender trying numerous jury trials in Hartford Superior Court. Subsequent to his employment as a Prosecutor, where he was involved in every manner of criminal matters, including numerous trials, he served as the head of the Economic Crime Unit of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office, an award-winning unit comprised of prosecutors and investigators with statewide jurisdiction charged with the investigation and prosecution of white collar crime. During his tenure at the Economic Crime Unit, Attorney Solomson and his staff prosecuted hundreds of matters ranging from widespread home improvement frauds, embezzlements, insurance and securities fraud.

      Among the cases that his unit tried during his tenure as chief were, State v. Kreminski [referenced above under Securities Law]; State v. Carrione, 188 Conn. 681 (1982), a prosecution involving a classic Ponzi scheme, and finally State v. Farrah, 161 Conn. 43 (1971), a successful prosecution of a serial con man.

      While at the Economic Crime Unit, Attorney Solomson and his staff worked closely with many State and Federal Agencies including the Connecticut Insurance and Banking Departments, the Department of Consumer Protection, the United States Postal Inspectors, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

      After leaving State Service, Attorney Solomson has continued to be involved with the practice of criminal law throughout the State of Connecticut. He has defended a full range of misdemeanor and felony matters including DWI, all types of larcenies, insurance fraud, computer fraud, and domestic disputes.

      Family Law


      Attorney Solomson is an integral part of O’Connell, Attmore & Morris’s family law department. He has litigated numerous motions and has tried complex custody matters.

      Licensing and Regulatory Proceedings


      Attorney Solomson has an active practice representing individuals and businesses in front of various State and Federal Agencies. He has focused on financial professionals involved with issues at the Connecticut Insurance Department, the Connecticut Department of Health, the Connecticut Banking Department, the NASD, and the SEC. His experience includes litigating licensing matters at the Agency level and in the Superior Court, as well as successfully negotiating settlements and Consent Orders for his clients.

      Attorney Solomson is a graduate of Providence College and of the University of Connecticut Law School, where he was awarded a Juris Doctor Degree in 1974. He was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in Conflicts of Law. Upon graduation from law school, Attorney Solomson entered state service as a Public Defender in the Hartford Superior Court and was later a prosecutor in Windsor, Connecticut. He served as an Assistant State's Attorney heading up the Connecticut Economic Crime Unit of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office. In that capacity, he investigated and prosecuted complex white collar cases, with a particular emphasis in the areas of securities and insurance fraud. His unit worked closely with many State and Federal Agencies in the investigation of financial fraud.

      After state service, Attorney Solomson was employed by Commercial Union Insurance Company, where he was responsible for insurance fraud investigations nationwide. In 1983, he became an associate in the law firm of Danaher, O'Connell, Attmore, Tedford & Flaherty. He has been a principal at O'Connell, Attmore & Morris since 1987. While at O’Connell, Attmore & Morris, he has concentrated his practice on civil, family, criminal litigation, including regulatory litigation in the securities and insurance fields.

      He represents numerous clients in licensing matters before Connecticut agencies. Since 1985, Attorney Solomson has been a member of the Securities Advisory Council to the Connecticut Department of Banking and has often lectured on various securities law issues. He is a member of the Connecticut and American Bar Associations, The Defense Research Institute, and The American Trial Lawyers Association.
